This week was a busy week and I was hoping for apples to make an apple pie, but instead I got a lot of apple cider. This was exciting to me as I've been wanting to make hard cider recently. Soon, I'll post about my cider making adventures. Let's see what I got. ...continue reading "Thanksgiving: Diving During Week 47 of 2017"
Another week is over, so lets talk about what I got this week. I didn't go diving much this week, and when I swung by, I didn't see much. I did find some fudge this week which was something different, but I gave it to some friends because I didn't need that much sugar in my diet. On to the items I got
Another busy week is over. I sadly am not sure why the weeks have been so busy, but again it was. This week when I did manage to swing by the dumpsters, it seemed plants were the most likely thing to be found. Lets talk about the items I acquired this week. ...continue reading "Diving during Week 35 of 2017: Plant Edition"
It's been a busy week for me this past week. I got sun burnt and didn't have much energy to go diving. The couple of times I swung by, the dumpsters were empty. Luckily this morning I swing by on one last ditch effort to see what was there and got a few goodies. There were other veggies in the dumpster which I didn't take, but most of the veggies were warm and I didn't think I'd eat them before they went back, so I let them stay. On to what I did take. ...continue reading "Diving during Week 33 of 2017"
It was another week full of fruits and veggies. ...continue reading "Diving during Week 32 of 2017"
The most interesting item of the week was a paper shredder. I went looking for yummy veggies and instead of veggies, I saw this paper shredder. I debated about taking it since I thought maybe it wouldn't work, but decided it was worth the chance. When I got home, I plugged it in and it looks to work just fine. There might be some issues with the auto sensor of when a paper is put in the shredder, but otherwise, all is good.
This was good for me since I burned out my last paper shredder so I haven't had one for awhile. I like shredding mail that I get since credit card companies love to send me pre-approvals and those checks for cash advances. Now I have a shredder I can use again.
I got quite a bit of fruit this week. If you look, there was a bunch of apples, some mandarins, and a few grapes. All of these are good fruits to have and yummy. I liked the variety that was in the box.
I also got a bunch of plantains in the box so I'll have to give cooking them another go. It didn't work out so well last time, so if you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments.
This seemed to be the week for yellow squash. I found two boxes full of them one day, and found a bunch more later in the week. I enjoy them, but sadly can't eat enough to not have all of those go bad.
I also got some other veggies so I could have variety in my diet this week. It seems that peppers, broccoli, and cucumbers are on the menu. There seems to be enough for me to be eating peppers for a few weeks along with all the other goodies.
That's about all I got this week which doesn't seem like a ton, but is actually quite a bit of food.
What have you found recently? Let me know in the comments.
It's been an interesting week of dumpster diving. Since Tuesday was a holiday, I had a little more time to dive. I also was visiting my parents, so I knew I had people to eat the food I was finding.
So the most interesting items I found were the five wooden camels with three people who I assume are supposed to be the three wise men. I grabbed these as if nothing else, they will make good firewood. Note in the picture the three little figures in the first camel.
I found a box of apples this week which was great since my parents enjoy apple pies. This amused me as I read the signs that told me to enjoy baseball, hotdogs, apple pie, and a sober ride. I was just helping us get food for the apple pie.
Bagels and Bread
I grabbed a bag of bagels this week as well. I showed up to the dumpster as an employee was throwing away donuts. I asked if I could get those, but was told I didn't want them, they were trash. She was right that I didn't want the donuts, but I did want the bag of bagels that was in the dumpster. I assume these spent very little time in the dumpster since they were on top and other bakery items were being thrown out when I arrived.
I also grabbed a few loaves of rye bread since I know my dad likes those. The french bread was gotten to make french toast for breakfast in a couple of days. The cake was in there as well.
This crate of food was a nice find as it contained a variety of items. As you can see, it has bananas, plantains, cherries, oranges and corn. The nice part about this box is it didn't contain too many of any one item. I also was at the dumpster when this item came out from the store so it didn't even make it into the dumpster.
Other things I found this week in the vegetable department were some broccoli veggie mix and asparagus. Usually asparagus isn't worth grabbing when I find it in the dumpster, but this time it looked like it would be good if I ate it immediately. Since I find asparagus a treat, I'm always happy when I find some worth grabbing.
The other veggie find this week was some precut celery. I enjoy celery, but usually I'm too lazy to cut it up so it was nice that I found some celery already cut up and I could just grab it for my lunches.
Last but not least, I found some cookie thins this week. I only grabbed a few packages, since I don't tend to eat them, but I hope they will be enjoyed.
It's been a good week for finding things. I only went a few times this week, but when I did, I found things that made me happy I went. ...continue reading "Onions, Meat, Veggies, and College Trash"
